Yes the known venues in Udaipur are super costly and yes, I know “cost” the first question that must have crossed your mind while looking at Udaipur to host a Destination or a Palace Wedding. Well, infact it is actually sensible to check on overall budget for Wedding in Udaipur and if that match up with how much you are planning to spend before you start exploring other information.
After a tremendous response and appreciation for my post “cost of a Wedding in Goa“, I decided to put together this small write up which I hope shall give you a high level idea of recommended budget to plan a destination wedding in Udaipur.
Are you looking for a Palatial location which you may have seen in Movies or over internet and fancied you? Or the idea is to opt Udaipur but not necessarily a Palatial location but atleast high standard Hotel or a Resort?
Either case, there are plenty of options but the cost varies a lot!

Option “A” – Independent Palace locations & stay elsewhere
1. Independent Palace Wedding Venues
Udaipur is a historical town, Palatial locations which are centuries old have been the most premium and exotic venue for weddings. Jagmandir Island Palace is known worldwide to be a unique and one of the most premium venue, the main City Palace complex also houses other venues like Zenana Mahal and Manek Chowk. These locations just serve as venue to host festivities and are priced as Packages combining venue, meals and standard setup in terms of banqueting, welcoming of guests etc.
These venues do not offer accommodation or Rooms
These top of the line venues (one of them is located in the center of lake and is known for celebrity weddings) are charged Rs. 10000-12000 per person subject to a minimum guaranteed number of guests. These rates do not change drastically even if you are expecting a large gathering.
Which means for an evening that consist of Wedding Ceremony & Reception Dinner only with a 150 guest list would simply be Rs. 24 to 30 lakh. With 2 such evenings we are talking about doubling the budget immediately.
2. How about cost of stay?
Above you read about how much it would cost to just host the celebrations at Palace locations, here is some useful information about how much you would spend on “stay”
Good 3-4 star Hotels and Resorts in Udaipur range which could be used to stay while having festivities at Palatial locations range from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 12000 per night per Room.
While 5* Hotels and Resorts range from Rs. 12000 to Rs. 18000 per night per Room.
If you want everything premium, you may want to stay at top of the line luxury Hotels ranging from Rs. 25000 to Rs. 65000 per night per Room.
So your stay options for lets say 150 guests and 2 nights range from Rs. 15 lakh to 1.25 crore and you could combine them with the independent Palace venues explained above
3) Decor & Setup : Even Palaces need some make over or may be complete transformation?
I am personally of opinion that when you have such beautiful surrounding and aesthetics you really need to just add up a bit of elegance with flowers, light accents, drapes & candles. A tasteful and minimal decor to bring out the beauty of venue and make it look special.
There are 2 ways to go about it
1. Have a Wedding Planner who could help with such ideas and implement with the reliable local suppliers. Generally the Wedding Planners would have in house team of creatives with limited set of skills.
2. If your idea is different and you would like to completely transform the venue and want to go with some designer concepts, sky is not the limit. Ordering 30-35 lakh worth of exotic flowers from Thailand is pretty much convenient for example. Have a Set Designer who could visit the venues and come up a unique design for you for every event and again Wedding Planner could help with hiring a Set designer / Concept designer and implement with help of local suppliers.
Talking about decor and setup budget,
Earmarking Rs. 20 to 25 lakh budget for base setup, Floral decor & arrangements, Mandap, Furniture, Sound equipment, Lighting & illumination etc which are part of setup should be a moderate amount. If you are keen on exotic flowers & a designer stuff, this would go up to 50-75 lakh. For an extra ordinary decor and design, sky is the limit to what you could spend.
4) And we have more costs
The List could be really long but some of the major cost heads which need to be budgeted are
Transportation & ground arrangements,
Photographer & Videographer,
Wedding Planner & Coordinator (its always an extra cost),
Entertainment (Local folk Artists works very well),
Sound setup & DJ,
Procession or Baraat (Elephant, Lance men, Camels & Horses, Fire torches, Drum Players.. what do you want?),
Professionals like Mehendi, Hair stylists & Make up Artists,
Pandit/Maharaj,
Bar Tenders,
and the list goes on ….
These service providers could add another Rs. 15 to 30 lakh to the overall budget depending upon what all services you opt for and the quality. For example a 2 days Photo and Film coverage ranges from Rs. 2.5 lakh to 10 lakh.
So by now we covered most of bigger costings :

To conclude two days all inclusive wedding affair with the 2 major events at these independent Palace locations and stay at Hotel/Resort of your choice could cost Rs. 60000 to Rs. 1 lakh per person
With a guest list of 200, you would end up spending anything between Rs 1.25 Crores to Rs. 2 Crores depending upon the choices as above.
Option “B” – Palatial Hotels for stay & festivities
Palatial Hotels & Resorts
Udaipur boasts some of the beautiful Palatial locations which are not only historical but are constructed the way to look like Palace and are amazingly done up. The names like The Leela, Udai Vilas, Devigarh, Fatehgarh, Laxmi Vilas, Chunda Palace etc may even sound familiar to you if you have researched a bit. These are full service Palatial style of Hotels and offer Rooms, outdoor and indoor venues which may even be lake front.
All inclusive budget for such Palace or Palace style Hotels range from Rs. 35000 to Rs. 2.75 lakh per person for 2 nights stay, meals, services, setup & Decor etc.
With a guest list of 150, you would end up spending anything between Rs 50 lakhs to Rs. 4 Crores depending upon the choices as above.
Option “C” – Modern Hotels & Resorts for stay & festivities
Modern Hotels & Resorts in Udaipur have large Rooms inventory and thats the biggest plus with them. A large gathering could be conveniently accommodated under same roof with a complete privacy.
I am talking about options like Radisson, Ananta, Ramada, Tatsaraasa, Taj Aravali, Lakend etc.
All inclusive budget for such modern Hotels & Resorts range from Rs. 30000 to Rs. 45000 per person for 2 nights stay, meals, services, setup & Decor etc.
With a guest list of 150, you would end up spending anything between Rs 40 lakhs to Rs. 1 Crore depending upon the choices as above.
Option “D” – Budget Hotels & Resorts for Wedding in Udaipur
If you are expecting less than 100 guests, here is one fantastic location for a Sun downer Wedding and Dinner and much more affordable.
Raas Leela itself has 10 luxury cottages and could be combined with heritage Hotels located walk away.
